No remorse...

I follow a blogger who lives literally around the corner from my childhood home. Isn't that so weird? She is hilarious and real, snarky and shameless....or so I thought.

Turns out the woman harbors shame...and not only has she shared her own shameful situation with world, but she has invited us all to link up our own shameful situations. I'm not sure to what end...but not everything has to have an 'end'.

I love coming clean regarding my foibles.  And based on her photo and some of the other linkers, I am most shameful. However... interestingly, I feel neither shame nor remorse regarding my totally crap housekeeping skillset. Nonetheless, I am always in for making people feel better about themselves...or at least giving them a good laugh at my expense.

I could do the living-out-of-my-nastyass-car shots, like Jill posted...

...but even though I've got the retro keyboard, a mouse, a pair of ice skates and
God-knows-what-else, her carpet is way gross...
and the pirate booty she has scattered about adds a certain je ne sais quoi...
interestingly, I think we have the same car.

Then prompted by Neo's Post of Shame, my thoughts wandered to how messy I allow my kids to keep their rooms...

G's room

X's room

Q's room

...but unlike her kid's room, mine are just toy-messy
while her photo showed dirty dishes and food wrappers.

Of course there is Miss C's disaster area, which happens to be prominently located in the family room...

But how it expands into and joins with the mess in the living room is what bugs my husband more than probably almost anything in our house...

Yes, the lovely, velvet chaise is covered with laundry... always.
Not just on Saturdays like Robot Mommy's.

...and I'm hoping Dot over at Our Adventures with Riley recognizes her table's long-lost twin :)

I could show you guys my garage...

Seriously, how did those burglar-guys find anything of value in this mess?

But....

It was a comment left by AutismWonderland regarding the contents of her freezer that piqued my curiosity about my own freezer...

I wasn't particularly shamed by the old hamburger meat that I haven't tossed in the garbage because I keep forgetting to do that on trash day...and the thought of it rotting out there waiting for trash day totally makes me feel ill...

It does, indeed, say "08/11/11" as the freeze by date.
I put it in the freezer in September...which is why it never got used.

Nor by the Pedialyte pops that moved with us back in December 2009...

...after they had already expired in April of that year!

I think the only thing that really strikes me as super weird...and perhaps somewhat shameful... is this...

In 2007, my eldest had lice.
His little brother had lovely, long, downy, curly hair and a very hyper disposition.
We shaved his head to avoid needing to do any nit-combing or other painstaking treatment.
I put the hair in ziploc baggies and then into the freezer to kill any possible lice.
I still have these four-and-a-half-year old bags of possibly formerly lice-y hair in my freezer...
and we moved in 2009.
I guess I am shamefully sentimental about this hair.
And maybe somewhat of a hoarder?

Do come share your shame...

When bad naps happen to good people...

I am not a napper.

Sleeping when it's light out and there are things do, places to go, people to see just goes against my grain. Sure, I may loll about doing nothing, going nowhere, seeing no one during my day, but I would rather be awake just in case.

Today I napped.

What a disaster.

My husband is out of town through the weekend. Yes, that guy does go away a lot. And little Miss C is in preschool today while all the older kids are in regular school. My plan was to use this opportunity to run during the day.... oooooo.... and on terrain that is similar to my upcoming race in Long Beach, California. I was to run for around an hour on a flat, straight road.

This morning, I got home from school drop-offs after performing lice duty and busied myself with busywork of no real consequence. Then I decided to get ready to run. It was a little before noon.

I saw this...

I thought..."hmmmm... I should change the sheets and make the bed." So of course I lay down on top of the comforters and pillows... I don't know... so I could see if they were really dirty?

I closed my eyes and thought... "hmmmmm... this is nice..." I glanced at one of the two clocks and told myself, "Just 5 minutes."

Fifteen minutes later, at 12:10, I looked at the clock again and said to myself, "Ooooo... I should probably get going if I'm going to fit in a run and lunch and a shower before I go get those kids." And I relaxed back into the pile of softness... that wasn't too smelly.

At five minutes before 1 o'clock, I looked at the clock again. "Wow," I thought. "I really should get going!"

I rolled over. And next thing I knew...

Ummmm... yeah!

And they both said 2:20... so I know it wasn't some weird time warp deal.

My whole day, spent lying on top of a wad of comforters and pillows. I do not feel relaxed and/or rested. I didn't do my run. I need to race off to pick up my kids to take them to soccer and swimming and listen to the oldest one complain about how he has to be dragged around to all of this when he really has wayyyyyyyyy more important things to do.

Awesome.

I hate naps.

Spank me... I'm a baaaaad blogger.

It's been a rough summer.

I've got all these kids and they had lots going on and my husband left the country for almost two weeks.

It's been a rough week.

I'll be leaving these kids for four days... the first time I've been away from them in forEVER... like, their whole lives. While I am really fine with going away and know they are in great hands and will be a-okay, they are struggling. They aren't talking about it... they are acting out about it :(

Way to make me excited about coming back home, kids :P

We joke about blogging being narcissistic. Well, maybe some of us are in denial. I want to acknowledge my apparent, complete self-absorption these past few months. It isn't because I don't care. It isn't because I want to be so non-participatory. And it isn't that I am not reading all of your fab blogs. I just have too many friggin' plates spinning on those weird, teetery poles... and some of them dropped.

Housework dropped first.

Commenting dropped next.

I keep trying to toss that commenting one back up and get it going again (the housework one I just leave in pieces on the floor), but between having an insane 2-year old, being out of the house something like 16 hours of the day and my phone not cooperating in the commenting department the vast majority of the time, that plate keeps slowing down and slipping and falling. I sincerely hope to let each of you know individually and more frequently how much I love reading about your lives, plans, funnies, etc. and how much I appreciate all the support you've shown me :)

My recent distraction is about to unfold.

Hood to Coast Relay is this weekend! O. My. God. I really can't believe I am about to join my Nuun Platuuners and do this thing! I can only imagine how boring seeing my crap all in piles to pack must have been. And I know that my detailed, skewed analysis of my relay legs confused a whole lot of people. But I am hoping my excitement is infectious and not just super annoying :P and if you are wanting to follow us as we fly down Mount Hood, plod through Portland, trot across the Coastal Range and screeeeeeeeem down into Seaside, here's how you can do it...

Please know that this baaaaaaad blogger will soon be sharing the love a lot better than she has been ... this EPIC madness of a race is over soon AND my kids go back to school at the end of the week AND the 2-year old will be starting preschool a couple of days a week! Wooooooo Hooooooo!

It'll be "Moms Gone Wild".
