Rowing 101: for my friend, Blonde Ponytail...this is how it's done

Just a few days ago, my good friend Blonde Ponytail remarked how she used to think rowing was 'a waste of time.'

For shame...for shame...

Here's a video of the best 'time wasters' in the world doing what they do best and doing it as best they can...

And if that didn't convince you...

I know you've changed your mind about that 'waste of time' thing.

Am I right?

  3. Cool to watch. Never rowed anything like this - just paddled a canoe and a simple plastic kayak (definitely not using legs). But after watching the BL the other night when they were hurting their way through 10k, I knew it wasn't a "waste of time". When was the last time you were able to do this?

  4. Oh man do I miss rowing. I almost started crying this morning on my way to my 7k, I had to drive by my old boathouse and there were a couple skulls out on the water.

    1. I hear you...I drive by a boathouse on a small body of water four times every day taking my kids to and from school.

  6. Am going to try that again with less typos! I used to think my friends who did crew in high school were superheroes. No way I could do that!

  7. You need not convince me. I well know rowing is badass. You have my utmost respect. I still want that coxswain gig.

  8. Love the videos, specially the commentary in the second one! I just watched more rowing than I have in my entire life :-). Is "taking it on" a rowing term? The commentator in the second video used that term to describe Great Britain rowing at a rate of 43.

    1. Those are two really spectacular races to watch! The commentators in the second one are pretty awesome...very animated and knowledgeable. I don't think 'Taking It On' is uniquely a rowing term :)

  11. I've always thought guys who row are haaawt!!! They do have really great upper bods!

I tried rowing once with a few friends in Charles River, Boston. None of us were exactly experts at rowing. I was the stupid one sitting at the end, who ended up choking up on water and ear clogs because my brilliant friends who didn't know what they were doing managed to slosh the water to my face every time. Alas, that squashed any desire to row ever again.

  12. I used to watch rowing on Universal Sports before Fios kicked it off the channel lineup, the bastards.

Running, now that's a waste of time.

  13. That is awesome! Glad to see this, because, before this video, all I thought about when I heard about rowers were those twins from The Social Network.
