Starring: Nose

Yes, I have awesome hair. That fact is indisputable. My hair will one day be super famous, and you can say you knew it when. But like most people with awesome hair, there are days when I wish I had different hair. The grass is always greener... or the hair less wacked-out... or something...

Did you know that I also have a love/hate thing with my nose?  I always have. It surely does its job well in that I have a great sense of smell. This quality I usually love...delicious baked goods, the earth after a good rain, blooming flowers that are not corpse lilies... dog crap and loaded diapers... not so much :P

But I have never been particularly fond of how it looks. I think it is just too big for my pinhead and too pointy for its own good. It sticks out so far that I whack it on things... like doorways... from time to time.

It didn't help that I was teased mercilessly about it in grade school. (Pokeynose... dumbass couldn't even say 'Pinocchio' right). Kids are brutal. My own kids have even made comments about it. Sheesh. Hold your "oh, it's not so bad" comments... please. Even though you might mean them, you don't live with this beast. I appreciate your efforts to see past it, but it's okay. Really.

Anyway...

Who'd've thunk my nose would be featured in a movie? Yeah... I know! I still can't believe it!

I don't know how many of you took the time to click the Nuun HTC video link I posted a few weeks ago, but since I know it was so much work and might have maxed out the number of windows open on your screen at that given moment, I've embedded it for your viewing pleasure... and I am directing you to the most important scenes... Nose being of primary importance and Nuun Platuun a close second :) I do need to point these things out because they are not super easy to find in and amongst all the sparkle ;-) I kid you... I'm a kidder :P  Okay... enough emoticons... here's the video...

The parts you want to pay especially close attention to are as follows (times aren't necessarily exact):
  • 0:53.... Cupcake's famous "Good job, girl!"
  • 1:17.... Super Kim and her winning smile :)
  • 1:27.... THTH Susan (that stands for 'too hot to handle') who just ran a 3:18 marathon(!!!) stripping down to her super sexy shortshorts.
  • 1:34.... Nose's DEBUT!!!! Looking sharp ;-)
  • 1:57.... Nose's key scene... cut down by the director so you can't see her full range of abilities...
  • 1:59.... Tonia, who is an awesome spokesperson and still questioning the whereabouts of our trophies.
  • 2:06.... Cupcake again... giving her often-imitated 'thumbs up'!
  • 2:11.... Blonde Ponytail, unfortunately obscured in the only shadow she experienced during that hot, hot leg so you cannot see how fabulously her awesome Moving Comfort Juno bra supports her... remember Boobs I Follow?
  • 2:52.... Nose participates in a high-five with Megan from AfterNuun Delight... their team's Glamour Leg runner.
  • 2:58.... Nose assists in a comforting, motherly kiss and hug for Megan. Nose knows how hard it was. Love you, Megan :)

I didn't mention everyone by name because this post really was all about Nose. But so that no one's feelings are hurt...and in the name of good teamsmanship... I will snag a corner of Nose's marquee and praise the rest... in order of legs run that would be: Tricia, Caitlin, Kerrie, our Faster Bunny, Lisa, and Harmony. Click on the words "AfterNuun Delight" here or above to get names and links for all those awesomely sparkly women :)

That's enough... Nose is getting cranky about having to share the limelight.

Pretty stellar how I calm my nerves, eh? Distraction, distraction, distraction...

Thursday, October 6 is Taking It On's birthday or bloggiversary (how do you spell that anyway? anyone actually know?). ONE whole year. Wooo hoooo! What better way to celebrate than by helping Lucky Number 13 win an actual real contest with an actual real prize? Yeah! It's taking place today... on TIO's birthday and it will be here! There is some extremely talented competition and I could definitely use your help in getting the popular vote :)

Four dozen...

looks like this...

and this...

and this...

And this...

Happy Birthday to MEeeeeeeeeee!  :)

Just so you know, this photo of me is a couple of weeks old. I tried taking one yesterday, but the bruising from my DIY nose job still hasn't subsided. This one, although with my only once-broken nose, is better than yesterday's. And if you missed Baby X's photo yesterday, you must go back and see it :)

I had planned on getting this post up yesterday... on my birthday... in case you missed it :P

It was a great time! We went out last night without any kids... woo hooo!!!!

And had a ch-ch-ch night....

  • Cheese (and salami eaten in the car on the way to the movie)...
  • Chips (smuggled into the movie because I decided that the movie popcorn is bad for me... but potato chips are waaaayyyyy better... lol)
  • Chocolate (also smuggled into the movie so that we didn't have to pay $4 for a box of Raisinets)
We were going to get a Coke, but it doesn't start with "ch".

What can I say? I'm super easy to please :)

And many thanks to all of you who helped make my birthday that much more special with your wonderful birthday wishes!

The Double-Whammy Wounding Weekend

"Wounding" might be a little strong. That word usually conjures up images of torn skin and blood and bandages. I was injured... through some really stoooopid accidents... this past weekend, but no blood flowed and no bandages were necessary.

I hadn't posted about this sooner because I was waiting for my leg injury to produce a really awesomely colorful and humongous bruise... but this is all I got:

the darkish spot above the knee that looks like muscle definition is the bruise
Note to self:  do not use arnica if you are wanting a nice juicy bruise photo for your blog :P

It doesn't look like much, and I sound like a SuperWhiner... but wait'll you hear the story...

Darkness. Screaming. Dream-state. I think I woke up to go save my 2-year old from whatever scariness had woken her. I leapt out of bed on the other side (the side I never get out on) and dashed full-throttle toward her... unfortunately, the solid and sharply-edged footboard was in the way :(  I'm awake! I'm screaming. I'm on the floor. I think... seriously... that my leg is broken. I can't move it. I can't even feel it except that it is in deeeeeeep pain.

Babe is still screaming, "Mammma! Mammmmma! Maaaaaaammmmaaaaaa!"

From the floor, I manage to tell her, "Mommy can't come right now. Mommy is really hurt. Mommy is really, really hurt." And she actually stops screaming, lays herself down and goes back to sleep!

Somehow, I haul my agonizing body up onto the bed, curl up in the fetal position and fall asleep. When I awake, my leg is throbbing. There is a significant lump. Huge lump. I put arnica on it. I can walk but going down stairs, sitting on the toilet, sitting in a chair... and getting up again from all those... is excruciating. I can drive the car, but when I apply the parking break, the pain nearly sends me into orbit.

So I didn't run because that might have hurt it more. It no longer hurts to use the quad (nailed that sweet spot where the tendon and muscle all connect up) though it does hurt if you push on it and there is still a hard lump. But it's pretty much fine now, and I'll run tonight :)

The other moron-of-the-century maneuver I did involved my nose.

In my defense, it is a rather looooong nose.

It sticks out pretty far, so you can see how I might whack into things with it, right?

I was standing in our cloffice (closet-office) and heard someone come in the front door. I turned quickly as I also stepped backward... but not sideways. I nailed my nose at its bridge on the doorway. It issued a very loud "CRACK!" Doorways are solid. In an earthquake, that is where you are supposed to stand because they aren't going anywhere and you'll be safe. So the "CRACK!" definitely wasn't the wood of the doorway.

It was my nose.

I expected blood to come spurting out. It hurt like a nose-whacking hurts... a whole lot! I was afraid to look. Then I did. And I'll be dad-blamed if it didn't look better!

When I was 15, I dove into a pool that was shallower than I had expected and hit the floor with my face. Broke the nose. It wasn't as bad as Owen Wilson, but it was pretty messed up. (But not as messed up as I would have been if it had been my neck that got broken!).

The good, hard whack on the doorway did something. Sort of like really cheap and really fast cosmetic surgery... without any knives!

Score!

But still, getting hurt is no fun.
