Turning Pro?

The last time I received a paycheck, it was a different millennium.

1999.

I've made a few bucks here and there since then...selling stuff on Craigslist and holding a garage sale from time to time...but I don't really consider that income since it's just selling stuff that had, at some point, most likely cost me money (okay, some of the stuff was gifted to me or found ...but whatever... not calling it income).

When I first started writing a blog, my husband (who is the sole breadwinner in the family...unless you count Big G's $2 a year Disney stock dividends) had heard stories of people making tens of thousands of dollars a month off of their blogs. He saw my blog as his ticket to retirement. Ummmm...sorry to burst your bubble, babe...

This is my hobby. It's a diversion...an entertainment. And I've explained this to him. Nonetheless, I did put a little 'click on this' ad thingy in my sidebar last year just in case...

Just in case... was a bust.

Until...

This came in the mail...

My first 'paycheck' in thirteen years...the sum of four months worth of clicks on that ad thingy.

The beginning of my empire...according to my husband.

Dude is so delusional.

But his optimism is awfully refreshing.

  3. Awesome. Now you can buy me a drink in Oregon! My husband thought the same thing at first - um, no. Not a chance. In roughly 60 years I will have enough to take myself out for dinner.

  7. LOL! I haven't monetized my blog, but my husband's blog makes about $1500 a year. It's a different genre though - people hit his blog searching for specific info and usually the ads are related, so people click on them. I don't think the running/health/kid related blogs tend to work that way.

I'm sure it will make you rich someday! Really. ;o)

  11. That's funny. I think I have about $1.37 saved up. I don't think you get a check until it goes over $25. I may be about 80 by then.

  13. Cha-chinnnnng! XL, you are now considered "my wealthy friend, XL". I shall refer to you this way always!!! Now I believe you are qualified to write an eBook on how to make it big on the Internet. Also, you should take your earnings and buy some fancy photo equipment for your man. :-)

Congrats! I remember with Adsense for google, they told me I had earned $19.00, and did I want it sent to me or did I want it to accumulate. Of course I switched to Wordpress, and never did see that 19 bucks!

  17. That is so funny because I took a picture of the first check I got from Blogher and didn't post about it because I forgot. HOwever, I have nowhere near taht number of clicks, I got most of that paycheck from reviewing a book with blogher books. Still exciting anyway! Retirement, here we come! Found you at finding the funny.
