The P90X Workout for Moms

My husband follows the P90X program. I often watch and listen while he works out, and I have heard them refer to this particular episode... the one my husband does the least... as the "The 'Mother' of all P90X Workouts".  I have asked my husband why he rarely does this workout. His answer: it's mostly for legs and his legs are fine. shhhhh... but I think it's because they call it a workout for moms.

Well, since I was home alone with 3 kids and it was raining, going for a run yesterday or last night was out of the question
but after the comedy-of-errors morning I'd had, I was needing some sort of something to soothe my soul... or something...
So I decided an evening consisting of a casual 'Mom Workout' that focuses on legs was just the ticket to end my day right :)

I figured it'd help clear my head, get a couple of lonely endorphins kickin' around maybe help them find a few friends, be a semi-substitute for the run that was on the schedule...

What is this 'workout for moms'?
it is

Gonna do a lil'
ply.O.

But first I needed some o' this...

I have single-handedly eaten all of that which you see is missing.

After filling my pie-hole with ... well... with pie, I put the kids to bed and suited up.

Time for a lil'
ply.O.

There is a guy in the demonstration group who has a prosthetic leg... meaning he is doing the workout with one leg.  ONE.  I think he can be considered a nail.

It took about 45 minutes to do the workout, including the warm up and the cool down.  It was really hard.  I had the most trouble with the regular jumping jacks... but that is not fitness-related. Remember, I've had 4 kids... next time I just need a pad or something... but only for that exercise. I did my best and left the rest.  Then I needed some more pie.

The P90X Mother's Workout gets my vote.  But... is this cross-training?  I really didn't want to do any cross-training... might wreck my image.  I might start looking ... serious.

Stop Charo! ...

Finally... a worthy adversary!

I am in trouble... really.

Have you voted yet?  > >> >> >> >>>

The backstory:  I entered a photo contest. The Me + celebrity photo contest over at LadyBrain.  The prize is a $100 gift card to some as-yet-undetermined business.  I know, kinda sketchy.  But the ladies over at LadyBrain have it goin' on and so I trust that it will be an ultracool business. ;-)

I do not plan on keeping the winnings.

No.

I am going to split that hunnerd smackers (in its little plastic form) into 5 easy pieces shared among 5 lucky likers of my new facebook page!  See? Over there on the sidebar?  Facebook Badge!  Coolio, n'est-ce pas? So if you want to be a part of something bigger than yourself, get on over there and get busy "liking" ;-) You don't have to do the liking thing if you don't want a slice of the pie... but
please vote!!!

Anyway, here's the latest dealio... someone is endeavoring to trump my Fidel Castro pic... even with my headband and camel-toe!  Can you believe it?  That someone has entered a picture of herself with....

CHARO!  (see above picture with link)

yeah, Charo... and all her "cuchi-cuchi"... sheesh....

I must admit that my match has stepped into the ring. The contest is open until April 6th. There are bound to be others entering... Bring 'em on!

A victory is empty without worthy opponents :)

I have never enjoyed a cakewalk.

I'd rather lose to the best than crush the dregs.

Ut oh.

I'm starting to sound cocky.

Go Vote!

Granny's Gadgets #12

Before we can get to the gadget, I need to know.... did you vote yet today?  For my picture?     >>>>
I am trying to win something for YOU... but I can't do it without your votes!  The info on the contest is here.

Now we can do our gadget :)

You know it has something to do with
pie.

I have wanted to try this gadget out for years.  But I have been a pie-chicken... not to be confused with a chicken pie.  Pies are tricky.  That whole crust business ...

I did master the pie over the holidays, however.  Or so I thought.  I made a turkey pot pie after Thanksgiving and another one after Christmas, and they were amazing!  The crust on the second one was PERFECT.  And gluten-free.  Yes, I have to eat gluten-free things... otherwise, no one would hang out with me 'cuz wheat makes me sooooo wacky... and not in a good, fun way :(

Well, over the weekend I realized that we had waaayyyyyyyy too many berries in the fridge.
Over-shopping on my part + generosity on my mom's part = quart of assorted berries going to the dogs.

Time to try a pie...

And give that little slice-ease thingabob a whirl!

My understanding of the gadget is that you bake it under the crust, then when the pie is done cooking and ready to serve, you slice along the edges and just lift out a PERFECT slice without making your pie look like a ravaged, exploded mess.

What I didn't bank on was screwing up the crust :(  I used a different recipe with a different blend of gluten-free flours than with the turkey pies, and it just sucked :(  It tastes fine... but it disintgrates when you simply look at it.  Big ol' bummer.

But...

I was able to cheer myself up by pretending to be Mrs. Tweedy from the movie "Chicken Run" ... I kept saying, "Mrs. Tweedy's pies..." over and over in the Mrs. Tweedy voice.  It was annoying the heck outta my kids... so of course I kept on doing it ;-)

And eating that slice I cut out in the video really cheered me up... 'cuz it was so good!

But the slice stuck to the slice-ease thingamajig even though I had greased it ... so while that gadget does keep the pie looking lovely upon first slicing and I say that it's a winner at the end of the video, I am not sure if I'd really put it in the 'awesome' category... in fact, probably not.

Do you like pie?  What kinds?
– I am the only one who is going to eat this pie.  I like most kinds of pie.  I am not choosy about pie.  I even used to eat those Hostess ones.  My kids do not like pie... yet.  And my husband prefers lemon meringue. This is a lot of pie for one chick to snarf eat all by her lonesome :)  ... not a problem.
