About a year ago, she got a real harp...which made her a very happy harpist :) This past fall, she was asked to join a group, the Bay Area Youth Harp Ensemble, which plays in local concerts and exhibitions...like at the Dickens Christmas Fair.
Here she is last night, playing part of one of their new pieces for the spring series...
She adores playing the harp. She insisted this was the instrument she wanted to play starting when she was three years old. When she was four and a half, she started taking lessons. I'm thinking it somehow speaks to her. It is such a beautiful thing when you see your child connect with something on such a deep level...regardless of their ability.
I am so glad she didn't choose the trumpet. Or the bagpipes. Clinkers on the harp are still somewhat pleasing to the ear. Not so with those other two. Of course, Q-man is claiming the trumpet resonates with him...why am I not surprised?
And if you missed my Kaiser 5K race recap, it's here.
I love that she plays the harp! There is a girl that plays on Pearl Street in Boulder as a street performer and she makes a ton of money :) Just saying!
ReplyDeleteHey hey!!! I played the trumpet, even in college!
ReplyDeleteThe harp is BEAUTIFUL. Almost seems to be a lost intrument these days and at the Christmas service at church this year there was a young girl playing and I LOVED it! You are right! Such a beautiful things to see your child connect with something!
OK-off to check out the 5K report!
She plays beautifully!!
ReplyDelete(and as the mother of a budding trumpet player...ouch. my husband and I are forever walking around the house saying "Never had ONE lesson!" ala Ferris Bueller when he practices. it's better now, but still...)
I think that's wonderful she has found something to be passionate about at a young age. You can't ask for anything more, and it must be amazing to see her learn and play!
ReplyDeleteWow! Beautiful!! I wish I knew where to even begin with that! I am sure there are teachers somewhere around here but also cost a lot!
ReplyDeleteWow! That's not something you see every day! Good for her.
ReplyDeleteHarp is cool! My oldest just started playing the flute (my old flute, which I think is so cool) and the clunkers on that bad boy aren't pretty, but she's getting better every day. So wonderful that she found something that she really loves, that is a precious gift!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your beautiful daughter's talents with us. Appreciate it!
ReplyDeleteThat is cool. Munchkin (our 4yo) says he wants to play the harp...
ReplyDeleteOch Aye! What have ye against the fair an' bonny sounds of the pipes?
ReplyDeleteThe harp is a lovely instrument, and she plays quite well.
Laima beat me ot it. Munchkin's order of preference is ukulele, drums, violin, and harp.
ReplyDeleteThat's lovely! :)
ReplyDeleteThat is so incredibly cool! We have a viola and violin here, and are almost past the screeching stage on the violin, and well past it on viola---phew!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Love her big old smile in that picture. :)
ReplyDeleteShe is so cute! Just read your race recap and congrats on a great time! You're still pretty fast...I have yet to have a 5K under 30 min.
ReplyDeleteShe's beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI have never heard a harp, until now. Not kidding. It's a beautiful instrument, that's for sure :)
ReplyDeleteThat's really cool she found an instrument she connects with at such a young age. Love the sound a harp makes too!
ReplyDeleteo my goodness, how beautiful!
ReplyDeletei love what you say about how wonderful it is to see your child connect with something so deeply, regardless of his/her ability. i think about this a lot with my three little ones ... i just want them to connect with their passions and listen to what is in their hearts. so much peace and happiness can grow there. i love this post!
I have always wanted to learn to play the harp. She plays so beautifully. I love music and and we have right now in our house a piano, trumpet, french horn, clarinet and saxophone. Yep we love our instruments! You should so proud of your beautiful girl!!!
ReplyDeleteI have eight words for the q man. Gibson les paul with a marshall half stack. Way more annoying to parents than a trumpet. Plus more of a chick magnet
ReplyDeleteI love the harp!! (Britten's Ceremony of Carols was one of my favorite pieces I performed in during college.) She sounds lovely & has loads of time. :)
ReplyDeleteMy oldest son plays the trumpet. Luckily he took to it pretty well, but the first few weeks were a little bit, shall we say, difficult. The harp sounds wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome! I love the harp and have a friend that's been playing for more than 40 years now. Lovely!
ReplyDeleteShe looks happy! Harpist are always the ones that get the most gruppies!
