Everyone needs to rest at some point...

even non-stop, running babes...

She is just sacked out on the sofa and has been for about 2 hours. Wish I could do that...

Yep, mama is not so lucky as to get a to take a nap, but mama did get to sort of sleep in this morning... nine o'clock :)  Which was a good thing since one o'clock was bedtime :(

I had a workout planned for yesterday that was supposed to take place before my husband went out for poker night. "Let's get the kids to bed early tonight." That is such a joke around here. Anyone else have bedtime woes? I used to be a cracker-jack bedtime nazi. They were in bed by 6:30 (they were littler then) and asleep by 7 p.m. And they woke up with no prodding at 7 a.m. It was awesome.

Last night was typical in its atypicalness... there seems to be no rhythm or flow at night anymore, especially now that it's summer vacation. My husband left, and the kids were finally all in bed around 9ish. I slammed that P90X Plyometrics dvd into the player, beyond eager to do The Mother of all P90X Workouts, and started plyo-ing. Not 5 minutes into it...

"Mom? what are you doing?"
"In bed."
"You look like you're jumping around."
"I am. In bed."
"Are you going to be jumping for very long?"
"Yes. IN. BED."

A second child appears.

"Mom's jumping," first child announces.
"I don't know... mom? why are you jumping?"
"#%*@" (that part was in my head only... it did not escape my lips)
"This is my workout. Get. In. BED!" at which point I hit the 'pause' button and started toward the stairs... and they scattered... diving for cover in their beds.

"Thank you!" I called out. "Iloveyougoodnight."

And then I went back to my jumpingleapingbounding around the living room. It got me breathing hard. It was hot and sweaty and good. After an hour of that, I decided I needed a good stretch, so I shoved the P90X stretching dvd into the player and spent the next 45 minutes stretching.

A P90X double.

After that I was ready for dinner.

Such a bummer that it was midnight. But, yes, I did eat anyway.

P.S. my poker-playing husband came home at 3:45... he was the Big Winner. Woo hoooo :)  And he did take a nap... for about 3 hours! But he also had let me sleep in :)

  1. HAHAHAHA. I'm sorry, I had to laugh at the "they scattered for the safety of their beds". Mine do that with screaming "AHHH, Mom's coming!!!" Do yours do that? You are much more motivated than I am. After I get mine in bed I look at the mess of the day and think about the yoga I could be doing and I know how good it would feel and I sigh and go "Screw it" and sit with the laptop and fool around on facebook. Can you bottle your motivation and sell it to me....cheap?

  2. what a great post! haha!
i'll take a bottle of motivtion too

following you from the saturday hop!

    http:www.bragallaboutit.com come say hi!

  3. Looks like you made HER do P90X! Poor booger is TIIII-RED. Stop making to do all the housework.

  4. I love p90x, love that you did a double after the kids were in bed. Awesome, i need that kind of inspiration.

  5. Haha I love the dialogue part. Ha but then again I'm not a mom yet so someday I probably won't think that's so funny! New follower from the Say Hi Sunday blog hop :).

  6. how super cute I am a new follower of yours come see me at http://shopannies.blogspot.com

  7. It's so great when they hit their teens and then you no longer care if they sleep. I honestly have no idea what time my 15 year old went to bed last night. But the 7 year old, ya, I'm practically chirping when it's his bedtime. And 2 PX90 vids, you go girl!

  8. Do you like the Plyo P90x tape? My neighbor has the whole set. So far I have borrowed the one that is all push ups and pull ups, which was boring (hard, but boring) and also the ab ripper. Maybe I'll borrow plyo next. I am just trying to get a feel for the program.

I felt like looking just like your little one on my rest day Saturday ... but instead ... swim meet all day. So fun, though. :)

  9. I am seriously impressed that you did that great workout so late at night. I think by then I would have bagged it. You are an inspiration to us all XLMIC.

  10. You and your late night workouts are truly amazing!

I love Serial Mommy's comment too... mine usually yell "AHHH, Mom's coming!!!" too. :)

  11. We have such a hard time around here at bedtime lately too. Nobody wants to go to bed and everyone ends up in our bed sometime during the night.

I wish I could get the motivation to workout after they are settled. I usually just clean up and do the dishes, then totally crash on the couch.

  12. Ha! After I did p90x Plyometrics my legs were shaking! And I was sore for days! Good job on doubling up!

  13. LOL - it does get easier as they get older - or just different. Definitely changes. And sleeping until 9, that is really cool.

we *heart* comments!
