Vecchio Venerdì... Born in the Caul

A lot of people were very interested about this when I mentioned that Miss C had been born in the caul.  While I am not a particularly shy person, the thought of putting pictures of my wide open birth on here for public viewing was ... ahem... not something I felt comfortable with.

However, it was such an amazing thing to see... and not too many people get to see it... that I really wanted to share it.  I think I've cropped the pic to be discreet enough for this blog (remember... kids look at this site... and squeamish people, too... )  So here is Miss C as she is coming out the chute....

What I wasn't ready to show are the pictures of her emerging head and getting out to her neck with the sac still on.  I couldn't crop that in a way I was okay with :P  In this picture, they had just taken the sac off of her head and face because her cord was wrapped around her neck and they needed to unwind it.  You can see the shrink-wrap effect of the sac still on her arms and torso, though.

Here is Nurse Christine,
showing the piece that was over her head:

There you have it... my baby born in the caul.

  1. Interesting. This isn't the same thing as being born in your bag of waters is it?

  2. Yes, Amanda. It is the amniotic sac. In her birthday post I linked a bunch of info about that…probably should have linked it here, too :P I'll try to fix that later.

  9. That's incredible! I have to admit, I went and googled it to see a photo, because I was/am SO intrigued by it! Your picture is actually much more interesting and less grody than some that I'd seen! LOL
    Thanks for posting it!

  10. Awesome! Supposedly, being born in the caul means Miss C will have second sight.

Actually, allow me to reword this.... Thanks for the food... But anyways, thanx for spending some time to discuss this subject here on your web site.
